December 2017

December 2017

Stasia is the curator,
Oscillating between her
New York accent
and Canadian ways

Joy is the architect,
rebuilding the framework of her life
with her bare hands

Rebecca is the hip local,
our tour guide and hostess
her fluttering hands offer decadent cheeses
along with excellent advice

Krista is the philanthropist,
as she wrestles with what is hers to keep
and what she should give away

Jessie is the photographer
tonight
and the one giving directions,
which we gratefully obey

And I am the knotted author,
trying to untangle the emotional cords
that pull me in too many directions

Let me remember
where I see knots
you see a knitted blanket

of warmth and connection

A Cure for the COVID-19 Blues

A Cure for the COVID-19 Blues

... is your small son
in an oversized hoodie
with his precious face
tight with determination

as he strums a
borrowed
(and decontaminated)
ukulele

over and over
as the chords
come more easily

his heartbreakingly beautiful
soprano
fills the main floor

and as he sings
of the sun shining
in the sky

I believe him -

I’ll take his hope
and match it
with my own.
